our family loves halloween, most especially me. i look at it as an olympic sport, but it didn't always start out like that. of course when i was young, i love halloween and trick-or-treating. dressing up and eating candy what more could i ask for.  but as an adult, i didn't participate in the halloween madness that is rapid in nyc. until we had kids. i wanted the kids to experience the joy that i experienced as a kid when halloween came around, so now we do it big time.
enjoy

The Beginning

So many people have told us that we should start a blog about our family, so this is for all of you who made the request.

We are a family of four who live in New York City. Tim & I have been partners for almost 6 years and still going strong. I have always longed to have children and in fact, when we met, I told Tim that I was in the process of trying to adopt/foster a child, so if he was interested in me, he would have to be okay with the possibility of having children. As we are still together, you can say that he wasn't scared away. Thank goodness.
After a little more than a year of dating, we were blessed to foster Grady. I will never forget the first time that I saw her. It was February 25, 2005 and it was a cold New York City day. Grady arrived home and was bundled in a green, fleece snowsuit which was zipped all the way up, only leaving a small opening for her eyes. When our eyes met, I thought to myself that I will always love this child and how lucky I was to be able to be her foster father. She was 6.5 months old, but she was as prim and proper as a lady of 80. We actually named her Grady as we had three different pronunciations of her birth name and we could never get it right and Grady was the closest thing to it, so Grady she was. Oddly enough, we had liked the name Grady before she even arrived, so I guess it was just meant to be.
Fast forward 3.5 months ahead and we were blessed again with Cyrus. He came and was formally adopted at 3 weeks. Our first meeting with him took place in Philadelphia, PA where he was born. He is our little Philly Cheese Steak. We were so excited to be able to adopt Cyrus, but between the train ride, nerves and heat, we were out of whack of sorts when we arrived at the adoption agency. We stepped up to the door and on the other side there were the screams of a newborn baby that terrified me. What a wailer!!!! The door opens, we step in and turn a corner and there is our boy. We grabbed him in our arms, hugged, cried, laughed, cried some more and signed what seemed like 500 legal documents cementing the deal. I would have signed away my life to bring him home. We got the low-down on the baby, asked as many questions as possible and cried some more. chose his name...Cyrus Roy, which means sunny king. We had two names that we liked, so we said that we would name him after we meet him and see which name fit him best. The winner was Cyrus Roy which means "Sunny King" It must have been 95 degrees that day in Philly and he was our little king, so his name was befitting.
Now there are the 4 of us. A perfect family and a great match. We formally adopted Grady in 2007, so that just made things that much more official.
Our families and friends have been hugely supportive and our biggest cheerleaders and we can't imagine doing this without them. What a wonderful life we have all been given and we are grateful each and every day for all that we have.
We hope that you all enjoy this journey through our lives and want to thank you all again for your love and support.
